What attracted you to soul music in the first place, and does this still apply today?
The big ‘strings n things’ warm production sounds of the mid 70s labels such as Philly International and yes, this still applies today – warmth and melody in the music are very important also, regardless of era.

What radio experience did you have before you joined Solar?
Very little really, a year or so on an internet radio station.
What is/are your main criteria in choosing records for airplay?
All tunes have to fit in with my Soulsorts ethos – melodic, smooth and warm whether mid tempo, uptempo or ballads – I could never play a track I didn’t fully believe in.
Why would you recommend Solar to a listener?
Overall the station has a superb musical output with many outstanding DJ’s and shows.
Which other DJs do you admire and why?
I admire any DJ whose output is based primarily around the music they play and not themselves. Djs on Solar I currently check out regularly are Shaun Louis, Richard Searling and the Soul Brother Selection.
How would you like to be remembered by a listener?
As a DJ who knew how to make a radio show flow well and whose music choices and playlists were always of consistent quality regardless of the style of music played.
What do you do to relax?
These days I watch TV series and box sets.
