What attracted you to soul music in the first place, and does this still apply today
Soul Music caught my attention as a young boy and I’m pleased to say it still does today. It’s the melodic sound combined with a sensitive and expressive voice. Soul music is all about credibility and the ability to deliver your inner feelings to another person without a filter.
What are your top five favourite soul tracks
Gary Taylor - Love You To The Limit (Compassion, 1988)
James Mtume - Prime Time (You, Me and He, 1984)
Alexander O'Neal - A Broken Heart Can Mend (Alexander O'Neal, 1985)
Atlantic Starr – Don’t Take Me For Granted (All In The Name Of Love, 1987)
Bobby Womack – Through The Eyes Of A Child (Poet II, 1984)
There are of course many many more….
What are your favourite three record labels
It’s countdown for the record label. The future will be all about distributers and promoters. I used to admire Philadelphia International, Flyte Tyme Records and DJ International (legendary house music label).
Who are your favourite five artists
Robert Brookins
Chuckii Booker
Maze feat. Frankie Beverly
Bobby Womack
Gary Taylor.
And more…
What are your top three soul clubs of all time
I don't go clubbing.
What radio experience did you have before you joined Solar
As a teenager I did regional radio shows in Sweden called Soul Power and Soul Food. I also did some freelance work (interviews) for The Swedish National Radio. I was also part of a German internet station for a while and in 2008 I launched my brainchild Soulinterviews.com – The Home of Soul Interviews.
What is/are your main criteria in choosing records for airplay
I don’t care about the name of the artist, I just go with a feeling. The track must contain a strong melody though!
Why would you recommend Solar to a listener
The music on Solar is programmed by humans and not by money.
Which other DJs do you admire and why
I admire all humble DJs. There would be no DJs without the artists.
How would you like to be remembered by a listener
The guy with the strange accent and huge knowledge of music.
What do you do to relax
To relax I go jogging regularly and I try to meditate.
