

What attracted you to soul music in the first place, and does this still apply today?
My family I come from an Afro Carribean family and it was what we listened to in our household. I had a father who always listened to soul and reggae and an older brother who was dancing at Crackers and Cheeky Pete’s and bringing home Disco 45s when I was child

What is/are your main criteria in choosing records for airplay?
I have to like them

Derek Boland best DJ I ever heard even held records differently to other DJs
George Power played and broke records that you would have never dreamed of playing
Chris Hill used to sing over the records and was supremely confident he was in charge
Froggy as a young black kid growing up in the east end he was our DJ great use and understanding of sound
Paul Anderson understood music better than any other DJ was the most upfront DJ I ever heard
How would you like to be remembered by a listener?
As somebody who tried to not take himself too seriously and someone who was always approachable and informative
What do you do to relax?
I have a season ticket at Arsenal FC and watch Essex and England play cricket, I volunteer every Wednesday at a drop in centre for drug addicts, I love the theatre and have two daughters who keep me only toes oh and I listen to music
